anybody missing the foo_out_dsound_ex2 in 0.8.3′s era?
As we all know, in the 0.9.x foobar2000, there’s inevitably a short pause during manual track change with fading effect enabled, it definitely decreases our listening pleasure.
I always enjoy the fading features brought to me by the foo_out_dsound_ex2 component in the old time, it has custom pause, skip, seek and stop fading length. And the most important thing is, it will solve the short pause problem.
Finally, I’ve decided to port the foo_out_dsound_ex2 to 0.9.x, and it’s done. However, it is illegal to distribute it due to the SDK restrictions, so people, if you want it, leave your email in this post, I can assure that you will forget about the default DS output.
15/08/2008: NO MORE EMAILS WILL BE SENT
28/07/2008
the output component has been updated to resolve the volume changing problem.
also I’ve made a component that allows you to use components using metadb_display_hook (e.g. ui_panels, cwb_hooks) in foobar2000 0.9.5.3+, if those obsoleted components make you stay with 0.9.5.2, this is your gospel. use your instinct to find the download.

I’d like to try this output plugin. I do a lot of live stuff and want to replace Winamp with Foobar, but the pauses between manual track change is annoying.

Acropolis, why don’t you find yourself something productive to do?
Your recent “inventions” are useless: they can’t be used standalone, they’re in conflict with licenses of other products that they depend on. The metadb_display_hook hack looks like proof-of-concept-ware that works only with specific foobar2000 versions. Not only it looks like it will never work reliably, but if it somehow becomes popular, it will do more bad than good to the community, by generating problems when people update between foobar2000 versions and slowing down the development of potential foo_ui_panels replacements/successors.

Squeller,
it’s hard for me to do any better, because it supports different fading curves, the nature of the component is not designed to have volume changing (as of fb2k 0.8.3). unless I change it with a fixed curve or write another one.

Hi Acropolis,
with your Output component, the volume slider most of it’s area doesn’t change the volume too much, but the closer you come to zero, the more radical volume changes get. Can you distribut the changes more even?
Thanks

Wow, suddenly my cwb_hooks stuff shows up again, thank you! In the fb2k world highly illegal, you unliked child, but great improvement, or at least step forward to what we already had.
Acropolis said,
July 27, 2008 @ 8:37 am
@Squeller,
I use 5000 for the buffer, 5000 for skip, and 2000 for all the rest.
the fading settings in advanced preferences have nothing to do with the component, they are separated.
because of the volume problem, you should set the volume to 0dB for the moment.
I have developed something to re-use foo_cwb_hooks and foo_ui_panels in newer foobar2000, and it is being tested, so before it is totally done, I will not update the output component.
Al said,

I would love to have this! Finally, problem solved
Squeller said,
July 26, 2008 @ 11:31 pm
Another thing: FB2K also has fading settings in advanced preferences. Does this in any way interfere with your plugin, or are those settings ignored? What settings do you recommend?
Squeller said,
July 26, 2008 @ 11:28 pm
Ah I see! Yes, if I turn GC’s “crossfade on manual track change” off, manual track change fade works good. Only the volume changing is a desaster
Acropolis said,
July 26, 2008 @ 10:22 pm
i see, I actually forgot to check the volume setting code
anyway, I know this problem now.
I don’t understand what you say: “On manual track change there’s some stuttering”.
with this output, you are not supposed to use manual track change fading in crossfader, if I understand correctly.
Squeller said,
July 26, 2008 @ 5:45 pm
BTW no matter if I use Hardware mixing or not.
Also, if Gapless Crossfaer is turned off, while changing Volume there are crackles. Setting to zero sometimes leaves more or less volume.
Squeller said,
July 26, 2008 @ 5:38 pm
Hi Acropolis,
it seems pretty buggy. Several problems. On manual track change there’s some stuttering, volume change, and while changing tracks I can even set the volume to zero and there’s still output… I chose the direct “DSOUND : SB X-Fi Audio” output. The new overlap mode is turned on.
best regards
